Content (for

Every student is different, however, in general lessons are divided into two phases, firstly working with warm ups and technical exercises, followed by application of techniques to songs. These songs may be chosen from Vocal Tuition’s large song list or ones that the student is already working with. Individual style is encouraged as well as vocal interpretation and performance skills.
At
Vocal Tuition the teachers use backing tracks, piano
and guitar for those who do not accompany themselves.

Lessons can be recorded for playback, CDs of exercises
and backing tracks are also provided at a small fee.
Much
of the teaching at Vocal Tuition is based on theories
put forward by Jo Estill and further researched and developed
by Gillyanne
Kayes (author of Singing & The
Actor and Jeremy
Fisher
(Successful
Singing Auditions),
Frances advises on vocal maintenance and how to survive
the pressures of the music business. In collaboration
with her husband, Huw, she also teaches song writing.
With the benefit of the on-site recording studio and
production engineer, students can write their own songs,
record them and help in their production.
The
Vocal Tuition studio is a comfortable and friendly space
to work in. Like a “musician’s sweety shop”, it contains many instruments from drums to violin. It also contains a PA system enabling students to work on microphone technique and learn about sound. Frances and her teachers encourage students to use instruments, such as piano, guitar or percussion, on which they can also give guidance. This not only increases a variety of skills and helps with song writing, but it also improves general understanding of music. However, this is not compulsory.
The
Vocal Tuition recording studio is a great place to learn
recording techniques and record demo CDs. In addition,
harmony, improvisation, theory and notation can be studied
to develop creativity, musical knowledge and technical
ability. These skills can be put towards Rockschool examinations,
a popular syllabus, accredited by Trinity Guildhall.
Four
times a year Vocal Tuition runs student gigs to provide
optional live performance experience. These are not showcases,
but opportunities for non-professional singers to gain
some “gigging” experience in a sheltered environment. These gigs are hugely successful and really well attended; anyone is welcome to watch, for more information of the next one click
here. The
student gigs not only provide goals and build confidence,
but can also be useful steps towards becoming professional.
If
you want to take steps towards becoming a professional
singer, the thought can be very daunting. With the technical
coaching, student gigs, the chance to record demo CDs,
advice on sound equipment, including sound hire and up
to date advice on moving forward in the music business,
Vocal Tuition can help you on your journey.
